Stable dispersibility of bentonite-type additive with gemini ionic liquid intercalation structure for oil-based drilling

Abstract In this study, the direct intercalation of gemini ionic liquids (ILs) with different alkyl chains into bentonite (BT) interlayer as a high-performance lubricating additive for base oil 500SN was investigated. The purpose modifying BT an IL is to improve dispersion stability and lubricity in oil. dispersibility tribological properties IL—BT oil-based additives depend on increase interlamellar space chain length increased. More importantly, nanomaterial outperforms individual improving wear resistance, owing its sheet layers were deformed sprawled furrows along metal surface, thereby resulting low surface adhesion. Because excellent lubrication performance, IL-modified potential candidate main component drilling fluid. It can be used well construction reduce equipment damage ensure normal operation equipments.
